About Spades

Spades is a free trick-taking card game that runs in your browser on phone and desktop, with no download or sign-up. Play against three AI players, with a partner or cutthroat. Each round, bid how many tricks you will take, then play your hand. Spades are always trump. Make your bid to score, fall short and lose points. Bid Nil or Blind Nil for a big bonus, and watch the bags, because overtricks add up.

Tips

  1. Count your sure tricks: high spades and aces. Bid what you can win, not what you hope to win.
  2. Bid Nil only with low cards and few spades, and get rid of your highest cards early.
  3. Overtricks become bags and too many cost you points. Once your bid is made, avoid taking extra tricks.

    Is Spades free to play?

    Yes. Spades is completely free on Arena13. There is nothing to download, no account to make and nothing to buy.

    Can I play Spades on my phone?

    How long does a game of Spades take?

    A round takes about 25 minutes, so it fits into a short break.

    Does Spades have a leaderboard?

    Yes. After a round you can post your score under a nickname. There is an all-time top 10 and a daily board that resets at midnight UTC, and when Spades is one of the daily tournaments, the top 3 that day win coins.

    Do I need an account to save my progress?

    No. Your coins, level, streak, mastery and best scores are saved in your browser on this device.

    Spades is based on an open-source game (github.com/keithadler/spades27), adapted for Arena13. The original source and license are listed on our Credits page.
